The Story

How a neighborhood question became a solar farm.

Every card below is a chapter. Read them in order, or jump to the one that speaks to you.

Where it started

A utility bill hits the doormat.

Maria rents a third-floor apartment in Portland. She wants solar. Her landlord says no. Her building faces north. She pays $187 a month to a utility that burns coal on hot afternoons. She's not alone — 44% of US households can't access rooftop solar.

The Land

47 acres of south-facing land.

Former farmland, 12 miles outside the city. Leased from the Kowalski family for 25 years. Soil too shallow for crops. Perfect angle for the sun.

"I've been renting for 11 years. This is the first time I've actually felt like I own a piece of something that matters. My bill dropped $43 last month."

Day 1

The first panel went up on a Tuesday.

127 community members showed up to watch. Three brought coffee. One brought a dog. The installer, Darnell, bolted the first panel at 9:14 AM. Someone started clapping.

"My café uses a lot of power. I wanted the green story without a $40K roof install. Harvest gave me a solar badge, a lower bill, and a talking point for customers."

How your credits work

Farm generates power

Your share of the solar farm produces clean kilowatts every sunny hour.

Credits flow to your account

Your utility calculates the kilowatt value and applies it as a credit on your bill.

You pay less. Every month.

No new hardware. No installer. The same bill you already open — just smaller.

Questions

The things people ask
before they join.

I rent my apartment. Can I actually do this?
Yes — that's exactly who Harvest was built for. You don't need to own your home or touch your roof. You subscribe to a share of a shared solar farm, and the credits flow directly to your existing electric account. Your landlord doesn't need to be involved at all.
Do I need any new equipment or an installer visit?
None. Zero. There's no hardware, no installer, no new meter. The solar farm is offsite. Your utility handles the credit calculation. You just see a lower number on the same bill you already receive.
What if I move?
If you move within our service territory, your subscription follows you — just update your address in your Harvest account. If you move outside our territory, you can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee and no penalty.
How does my electric bill actually get lower?
Your share of the farm generates a certain number of kilowatt-hours each month. Your utility translates those kilowatt-hours into a dollar credit and subtracts it from your bill before you ever see it. You pay your utility less; Harvest gets a small subscription fee from that difference.
What happens on cloudy days or in winter?
Your credits vary month-to-month based on how much sunlight the farm receives — more in summer, less in winter. Your annual savings estimate accounts for this seasonal variation. You'll never be charged more than your normal bill; on low-production months, your savings are simply smaller.
Is there a contract or minimum commitment?
There's no long-term contract. You subscribe month-to-month. You can cancel at any time from your online account, no phone call required, no cancellation fee. We keep subscribers because the savings are real, not because we trap them.
How is this different from buying rooftop solar?
Rooftop solar requires you to own your home, have the right roof angle, spend $15,000–$40,000 (or take on a 20-year loan), and wait through a months-long installation process. Community solar requires none of that. You subscribe online in 3 minutes and your first credit arrives next billing cycle.
